LIFE GROUPS
We are a family. We have diverse interests and talents. We care.
Various small groups edify one another. Connect with us. Join Life Groups!
SCOC YOUTH
SCOC YOUTH GROUP
The SCOC Youth Group is over-the-top excited to meet you. Come see why kids from all over town flock together on Sunday mornings at 9:45am and Wednesday nights at 7:00pm. We would rather choose to spend time with Jesus and other kids who praise Him, than waste time anywhere else. “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12). Life can be tough. Do life with us instead of going through it alone. We exist to give God glory. Join us. Help spread the Good News that God forgives through Jesus. Contact Patrick, Adam, or Doris to get involved.
HEARTS & HANDS
HEARTS AND HANDS
The ladies of Hearts and Hands are creative crafters for Christ! We usually meet on Thursdays at 10am to find ways to share our love for God with others through the craft projects that we feel led to do. You do not have to be a creative person to be a part of this group. Every extra hand is a blessing! We not only get involved in projects that help people in our own community, but also find ways to minister to people across the globe. Come laugh, visit, try new things, make friends, help others, and glorify our Maker. For more info contact Norma.
IRONMEN
IRONMEN: MEN’S MINISTRY
“As iron sharpens iron, so each man sharpens another” (Prov. 27:17). The guys get together to share common interests, to armor up (Eph. 6:10-13) with God’s Word, to back each other up (Isa. 35:3-4), for prayer breakfasts, as well as for various opportunities to bring friends to Christ. Don’t try to fight the daily battle against evil in this world by yourself. We can only win if we help each other. Our God is “a mighty warrior who saves” (Zeph. 3:17). Let’s get to know Him better. Call Darroll or Scott to share ideas or get more info!
LADIES BIBLE CLASS
LADIES’ BIBLE CLASS
Ladies are invited to meet for a traditional Bible study each Wednesday morning at 10am in the classroom wing. Each one is welcome to share their thoughts and insights in the conversational style class focusing on a set of weekly questions provided in a study guide. You can help encourage our whole group just by being there with us…even if you don’t feel like saying a single word. Come and pray with us, sing along with an old favorite hymn, or help us study about the awesome God who loves us. To find out more about it, visit with Mable.
GOD’S GARDENERS
GOD’S GARDENERS: COMMUNITY GARDEN MINISTRY
We partner with our community to host a Smithville Community Garden. “Now the Lord God planted a garden…and there he placed the man he had made” (Gen. 2:8). …Got a “green thumb”? If you like to putter in the garden now and then, consider being a part of this unique ministry. Our garden is open to anyone who would like to share in its bounty. We ask only that folks “pick a few weeds” before leaving. We can glorify God by learning to walk with Him in the garden and share it with our community. Visit Dale or Adam for more information on how you can help.
PRAYER WARRIORS
PRAYER WARRIORS
Prayer Warriors set aside specific times to pray individually or in a group of others with a very focused battle plan and prayer agenda (Jude 1:20-23; Col. 4:2-4; Lk. 22:31-32). We may be called upon to attend to special needs such as praying with others at the bedside of the sick, or in the home of the suffering. We glorify God by thanking Him, praising Him, and voicing the needs of ourselves and others in prayer (Jas. 5:14-18). If you are willing to help pray diligently for others either on the phone, in writing, in person, or by yourself, contact Darroll or John.
MARRIAGE MATTERS
MARRIAGE MATTERS MINISTRY
Marriage matters to God. It is one of the most important examples He uses to show us how to have a deeper relationship with Him. We want to glorify God by putting Him first in our marriages. “A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple braided cord is not easily broken” (Ecc. 4:12). Darroll and Julie want to create a support network for couples seeking to strengthen their triad with Christ (Heb. 13:4). It’s the Marriage Matters Ministry. …Got ideas? Contact Darroll or Julie.
THE KEEN-AGERS
The KEEN-AGERS: OVER-50 MINISTRY
Are you age 50 or over? The Keen-Agers over-50 crowd has our own brand of fun! Contact Scott, Lynn, or Doris to help plan adventures and fellowship opportunities to rev-up your life, as you in turn, serve as a catalyst for joy in the lives of others (2 Cor. 1:14; Prov. 16:31). Some examples of past antics include cookouts, trips to see the wildflowers, jaunts to Rock-Box Theater, etc. Some of us are shy, while others are very outgoing. We all have different areas of interest. Come help us glorify God by enjoying His creation with us.
TOWERS TEAM
TOWERS TEAM: NURSING HOME MINISTRY
“Stand up in the presence of the elderly, and show respect for the aged. Fear your God. I am the Lord” (Lev. 19:32). The Towers Team meets at Towers Nursing Home at 372 Hill Road in Smithville, Texas on Sunday mornings at 9:45am to worship with the residents there during SCOC class-time. Encourage and lift the spirits of others (Prov. 16:24; 2 Cor. 1:3-5) by joining this vital work! You can make a huge difference in the life of another just by showing up. Let’s glorify God by honoring the elderly and infirm. Contact Dale and get involved.
SMALL GROUP DEVOS
SMALL GROUP DEVOS: OFF-CAMPUS MINISTRY
Small Group Devos may take place at various times and locations. The beauty of Small Group Devos is two-fold: 1. the maneuverability to meet anytime/anywhere; 2. the flexibility to re-shape the experience to maximize relationships and spiritual growth based on the needs of the group. Get to know people on a deeper level. Visit Scott, Adam, Dale, Bruce, or Darroll about group times and locations. Talk with Scott if you are interested in helping host a Youth Devo Group once each season on a rotating basis.
